Hyundai Electrified and Hybrid Vehicles FAQ
What’s the difference between HEV, PHEV and Battery Electric vehicles?
A hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) and plug-in electric vehicle (PHEV) are both equipped with an electric motor and a gasoline engine. The vehicle is designed to automatically activate the more suitable motor/engine, depending on the current driving conditions. Regenerative braking is incorporated with the electric motor and gasoline engine. This braking system ensures energy is replaced back into the electric battery, propelling the car forward when acceleration occurs.
The PHEV’s motor and battery capacity are larger than the HEV's. Further travelling distances can be achieved with a greater motor and battery size. The plug-in hybrid uses an external electric plug point for charging, while a regular hybrid vehicle requires gasoline as its fuel source.
What do Hyundai EVs offer?
Hyundai demonstrates its progressive innovation with its selection of electric vehicles. The EVs are equipped with long-range batteries of up to 488 km and show instant torque. Check out our 2024 IONIQ 5, IONIQ 6, and KONA Electric.
Do you charge a hybrid car?
No. A hybrid vehicle doesn’t require charging as it charges automatically while in transit. The automatic recharging occurs during the regenerative braking system. The vehicle’s energy is recovered and preserved until acceleration occurs.
What are the benefits of the powertrain?
Compared to a standard gasoline vehicle, the hybrid vehicle will boost fuel efficiency. The plug-in hybrid’s electric power capability is ideal for driving within the city. The vehicle won’t produce unwanted emissions without affecting overall speed and performance. Most hybrid vehicles offer a 1,000 km travelling capacity. This is a perfect choice for travelling longer distances. The regenerated energy from the vehicle’s innovative braking system is an added bonus.
What are the warranties and incentives?
Canadian HEV and PHEV vehicles have a five-year or 100,000 km comprehensive warranty. Enjoy an eight-year or 160,000km warranty for the vehicle’s components.
Are these vehicles a good investment?
The purchase of these types of Hyundai vehicles will prove to be a good decision. Take advantage of the rebates offered at a federal and provincial level in Canada. This can be most cost-effective in the long term. It’s a good idea to check the criteria for these rebates, as they tend to vary across the provinces. Should your Hyundai car meet the necessary criteria, you’ll receive a discount on the purchase price. It must be noted that an HEV is not viewed as a zero-emission vehicle in Canada and isn't eligible for EV rebates.
