What Is the Hyundai SmartSense Technology?
The Hyundai SmartSense is a suite of safety features designed to improve driveability, control, and responsiveness. This feature is now standard for most of Hyundai’s models. Here’s what you need to know about this incredibly handy and hi-tech system.
Surrounded By Technology
The Hyundai SmartSense is ready to help you during the most common challenges of daily driving. Better still, those driving assistants come with a long list of automated features.
Cruise Control/Smart Cruise Control
You can activate the Cruise Control feature by pushing the Cruise Control button mounted on the steering wheel. You’ll see radars guiding a stop-and-go function, automatically keeping a safe distance from the vehicle ahead. The Cruise Control also allows drivers to drive above 30km/h without pushing on the gas. It also includes an Electronic Stability Control system, which is incredibly helpful during traffic jams.
The Smart Cruise Control is an optional system that goes a step forward regarding the automation of speed adjustments. This feature also controls the distance between surrounding vehicles, applying brakes and acceleration according to the situation.
Lane Keeping Assist
The Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) is an alert system that warns you when your vehicle is leaving the lane. This situation triggers audible and visual alerts and an automated counter-steering action, thanks to Motor Driven Power Steering (MDPS). The LKA works at speeds between 60km/h and 180km/h, but you’ll need to keep your hands on the wheel anyway.
Downhill Brake Control
Hills are always challenging, and even more so when you’re going down. The Downhill Brake Control (DBC) will handle the brake pedal for you. Notice that this feature only works at speeds slower than 40km/h. It’ll be triggered automatically if the vehicle is at 35km/h or slower, on stand-by mode. This feature automatically turns off when you reach 60km/h, but you can also push the DBC button whenever you want.
Blind Spot Collision Warning
The Blindspot Collision Warning (BCW) ensures you won’t be surprised by vehicles coming out of the blue while driving. This system triggers acoustic and visual alarms whenever another car gets too close to your blind spot. Like the other safety features, you can turn it on simply by pushing a button. Additionally, you’ll count on a Lane Change Assist that warns you about high-speed vehicles while you’re changing lanes and rear cross-traffic monitors.
